Many players pride themselves on the way they tape their blade, and some have a style that everyone knows by just looking at the tape job. Some players use as much tape as possible, and some use the least amount they can, but they all use a style that works for them.
That's usually how a tape job comes about. A player might try a different style, and their game starts to get hot, so they leave it. Hockey players are weird and usually very superstitious.
David Pastrnak of the Boston Bruins is one of those NHL players. Pasta has a very unique tape job that you may have never even noticed, but by now, I think most fans would know whose stick it was if they saw it.
