In his first game as head coach of the Boston Bruins, Jim Montgomery watched his team put five goals on the scoreboard, which is a testament to the offensive freedom he likes to give his players.
However, when it came down to it, the team held their ground and played well enough defensively to come away with a 5-2 win.
''At the beginning of the year, nothing's pretty but what I really liked is how we stuck together. Guys sacrificed their bodies, there's blocked shots.
'There's parts of our game that we really liked.''
One way to describe Montgomery's coaching style after one game is that he has a high risk, high reward kind of mentality.
''One goal was an odd man rush, I know both were.''
'Blocked shot, the puck goes the other way, that's hockey.''
