Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid reached several milestones in his club's 5-3 season-opener win against the Vancouver Canucks.
The Oilers went down 3-0 to the Canucks, until McDavid took over, recording three goals and one assist from the second period on. Included was his 700th career point on his second goal of the game in just his 488th game, making him the sixth fastest in NHL history.
As per NHL Public Relations:

* Connor McDavid, who also opened the 2017-18 season with a hat trick, became the third player in NHL history to record multiple hat tricks in season-opening games, joining Brendan Shanahan (2) and Cam Neely (2).
OTHER MILESTONES REACHED:
- McDavid passed (and Leon Draisaitl tied) Wayne Gretzky and Jari Kurri for the most points season openers in Oilers franchise history
- McDavid also set the Oilers record for most points in a season opener with 4 (3G, 1A)
