A late night trade involving the Edmonton Oilers and Philadelphia Flyers has shocked the hockey world.

During tonight's game against the New Jersey Devils, the Edmonton Oilers announced a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers. Defenseman Ben Gleason is heading to Philadelphia, while the Oilers will receive defenseman Ronnie Attard in return.

TRADE ALERT: We have acquired defenseman Ben Gleason from Edmonton in exchange for defenseman Ronnie Attard.

The #Oilers have acquired defenceman Ronnie Attard from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for defenceman Ben Gleason.

Attard, 25, has some NHL experience, having played 29 games over the last three seasons with the Flyers. He's contributed two goals and four assists in that time. He was originally picked by Philadelphia as the 72nd overall selection in the 2019 NHL Draft.

Gleason, on the other hand, hasn't played in the NHL since the 2018-19 season, when he appeared in four games for the Dallas Stars. He entered the league undrafted, signing with Dallas as a free agent in 2018. Gleason signed with Edmonton in July 2023 but hasn't played a game for them, instead staying with their AHL affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors.

It wasn't the trade itself that shocked the hockey world, more the fact that the Oilers completed this trade while in the middle of a game, and it isn't too often you see trades go down this early in the season.

Who do you think won this trade?
