Major turn of events involving Tyler Bertuzzi signing with the Boston Bruins

He and the Colorado Avalanche have pulled a fast-one on us all, as they have recently signed Casey Mittlestadt, before the beginning of the NHL Draft and free-agency.

Mittelstadt's deal will be a market defining deal, as he signed for 3 years, with an AAV of $5.75 Million dollars.

The 8th overall pick in 2017, only has 66 goals and 196 points in 357 NHL games played. He has yet to achieve more than 60-points in a single season, and entering the 2024-2025 season at 25, it's likely he's already met his ceiling.

Meanwhile, Bertuzzi has been an offensive genius compared to the center, scoring 113 goals and 261 points in 401 NHL games, along with being a multiple 20 goal scorer, and scoring 30 goals in 2021-2022.

With Mittelstadt's cap hit being so high, it seems unlikey that Brad Treliving will be able to afford to bring back Tyler Bertuzzi next season.

His next deal could reach the $6M AAV limit, which could handcuff any movement between Bertuzzi and the Club.

The Leafs have multiple players to sign including Max Domi, starting goalie Joseph Woll who is due an extension on July the 1st, and they have only $19.7 M in cap space to work with.

This deal could be a boon for the Bruins should they have the cap space to sign Bertuzzi, but $6 M and upwards could press Sweeney and the team against the cap.
