A Tragic Story Regarding A Newly Acquired Prospect
Ian Mitchell, a rookie defenseman that just got traded to the Bruins, lost his best friend, Logan Hunter, in the Humboldt Broncos bus crash.
As the third anniversary of the tragedy approaches, Mitchell wears a Pittsburgh Pirates hat every day, a symbol of Hunter's presence and the pride he would feel for Mitchell's NHL career.
Hunter had a special fondness for hats, and the Pirates hat was his favorite.
Mitchell, although not sharing the same hat obsession, now wears his own customized Pirates hat with Hunter's initials and number, serving as a constant reminder of their friendship.
The bus crash in 2018 claimed the lives of three of Mitchell's close friends, including Hunter. In memory of Hunter, Mitchell and their friends began wearing Pirates hats.
Despite wearing it in hostile territory, Mitchell proudly dons the hat on a daily basis. His bond with Hunter's mother, Shauna Nordstrom, remains strong, as they text after every game.
Mitchell's future with the Bruins looks bright, and he carries Hunter's spirit with him whenever he hits the ice.
The Pirates hat serves as a meaningful tribute, keeping Hunter's memory alive as Mitchell lives out his dreams in the NHL.
