The Boston Bruins are currently in the midst of their offseason activities.

They have upcoming player development camps, the NHL Entry Draft, and the excitement of free agency.

General Manager Don Sweeney will undoubtedly have a busy schedule.

Sweeney's top priority is to secure young goaltender Jeremy Swayman, and he is also reportedly working on keeping Tyler Bertuzzi. However, there are other players who could catch Sweeney's attention, including defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson.

Ekman-Larsson, a former first-round pick of the Arizona Coyotes in 2009, has spent most of his career with the Coyotes before being traded to the Vancouver Canucks. While he has the potential to be a solid defenseman, he has yet to fully live up to expectations. However, he possesses a powerful shot and has accumulated significant points throughout his career.

The Bruins have been linked to Ekman-Larsson in the past, and he was ultimately traded to Vancouver. Although there are pros to signing him, such as his veteran presence and experience, there are also cons, including his declining performance and defensive struggles.

Considering the Bruins' current cap space, it would be wiser for them to prioritize other roster needs before considering Ekman-Larsson. While he may offer some benefits, the drawbacks outweigh the advantages. The team can allocate their resources more effectively by exploring other options that can have a greater impact.
