With several rumors linking him to different teams including the Utah hockey club, Chicago Blackhawks and the San Jose Sharks it's likely general manager Don Sweeney could sign him to another one-year deal either to a league minimum or up to $1 million as he was before.
The big obstacle that may be blocking this signing is the fact that the Bruins have yet to sign their starting goaltender, Jeremy Swayman. The Bruins currently have $8.6 million in cap space but are likely to keep this money off limits until they can lock up their number one netminder.
While many pundits felt a deal would have been done by now, the Bruins have taken a significant risk by letting go of tandem goaltender Linus Ullmark who was traded to the Ottawa Senators earlier this summer.
Having Swayman unsigned is preventing deals like van Riemsdyk from being done. He would give the Bruins more depth especially in their middle and bottom 6 and would also help them on their power play as this has been his specialty for many years.
Last season, he played 71 games, scoring eleven goals with 27 assists for 38 points and was a + 7. The Bruins signed him to a one-year deal worth $1 million and he has played for three NHL teams including the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Bruins and the Philadelphia Flyers.
Only time will tell if van Riemsdyk will be scooped up by the Bruins or another team before the backdrop of the new season.
