Boston Bruins Brad Marchand Received A Major Promotion From Team Canada After Latest Announcement
Just moments before puck drop between Team Canada, and Team USA, Elliotte Friedman revealed some troubling news for Team Canada as he revealed that star defenseman Cale Makar would not play in their game against Team USA.
It was revealed that Makar was not missing due to an injury, but to illness instead.
Elliotte Friedman went on to reveal that Cale Makar will be able to return to Canada's roster during this tournament once he gets healthy.
Already down one defenseman in Shea Theodore, this was a massive loss for Canada, especially considering he is easily their best defenseman, and it went on to show when USA ended up beating Team Canada 3-1.
Brad Marchand received a major promotion from Team Canada
When the 4 Nations revealed their rosters, they also revealed their captains and alternate captains for the tournament. Canada's three were Sidney Crosby as captain, Connor McDavid, and Cale Makar as alternates.
With Cale Makar out, Team Canada had to give the 'A' to someone else, and they chose no one other then Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand to wear the 'A' on his chest.
Unfortunately, Brad Marchand only saw just over 8 minutes of ice time as Team Canada tried to fight their way back into the game.
If Makar comes back for their next game, Brad Marchand will be stripped of his 'A' for their next game against Finland on Monday.
