The Boston Bruins and Edmonton Oilers could be on the verge of being trade partners. The Oilers need bottom-six depth to push deep into the postseason with hopes of winning a Stanley Cup after their defeat by the Florida Panthers last season.
The Bruins could offer a solution in former first-round pick, Trent Frederic. The young forward has been a fixture in the team's bottom-six, and had a career year in 2023-2024, scoring 18 goals, and 40 points under head coach Jim Montgomery.
Fast forward to this season, and it looks as if the Bruins will have to consider drastic measures in order to retool the lineup.
Frederic could be one option for the Bruins to recoup assets.
NHL Insider Frank Seravalli has Frederic listed at number 17 on his newest list of trade targets for the deadline.
Frederic's a perfect physical specimen for the old-school style of hockey, with a frame of 6'3", 220 pounds, and a frame that lends well to fighting.
He can play both center and wing and has experience playing on the Boston Bruins' penalty kill.
The 2016 first-round pick's production has slowed significantly with the Bruins, a story we've seen across the board for the team.
Could a fresh start in Edmonton be what Frederic needs to get his career back in order?
The Bruins forward is a pending UFA and has yet to sign a contract extension with the team. At the moment his cap hit is $2.3 million, and his trade value is considerably less than what it would've been in 2023-2024.
If you consider the kind of linemates he'd play with in Edmonton, with Corey Perry and Evander Kane, they'd be able to tear through the opposition and control the ice every night.
Not to mention, not one of them would be afraid to fight for their teammates.
Would you trade Trent Frederic to the Oilers?
