Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand recently opened up and revealed his true colours towards the organization as the NHL trade deadline approaches.

During his impressive 16-year NHL career, Brad Marchand has always been a Bruin, and he is hoping that it stays like that, even though the franchise is heading in a different direction at the trade deadline.
Marchand would be the perfect addition to a top contender this season as he would add scoring depth, he brings a lot of experience and leadership, and he is more appealing due to the fact he would be a rental as his contract is set to expire.
On Monday, the day after Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney held a press conference, Marchand acknowledged that some tough decisions are to come, but he wants to stay with the organization.
«I've always planned on playing here my entire career. That hasn't changed,» Marchand told reporters Monday after practice. «They're aware of that. I think everyone's aware of that. It's a gift to be playing for this team and I take a tremendous amount of pride in that. It's always been the goal.»

Don Sweeney is going to be busy leading up until the trade deadline, and will also be in talks with Marchand and his camp as he stated the two sides are discussing a contract extension.
It is unclear whether the deadline will play a part in talks coming to a halt. Teams and players often strike new deals at the deadline (Bruins did this with DeBrusk in 2022), and these talks normally dictate the path the team and players decide to take.
The direction Sweeney and Marchand are leaning is unclear, but they are keeping the cards close to their respective vest for now.
«We're obviously in talks. I feel like I understand where I'm at personally, but again, that's going to stay between us,» Marchand said.

For now, Marchand and the Bruins are hoping they can force Sweeney's hand at the NHL trade deadline.
The Bruins are not out of the playoffs just yet, as four points separate five teams in the Eastern Conference playoff race with Detroit and Ottawa holding the two wild-card spots right now.
«I think the team has a very good understanding of what the team is, what they're going to do,» Marchand added. «We're very close to being in a playoff spot. A lot of teams have caught up in the standings, but we're right there.»

Marchand has limited trade protection on his contract, and stated that the deadline is an awkward time regardless of if the team is buying or selling.
