Neely feels that the Bruins and Swayman will come to an agreement even though the summer is disappearing and training camp is less than a month away.
Swayman saw his game go to the next level after head coach Jim Montgomery chose to break his own system and hand over the net to Swayman during the playoffs. In those 12 games, he had a goal against of 2.15 and a save percentage of .933. He also took the Bruins past the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round but lost in the second round by the Florida Panthers.
Neely along with general manager Don Sweeney chose to select Swayman and trade their Vezina winning goaltender Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators to restore $5,000,000 in cap space.
Many feel that Brandon Bussi will be ready to take over the reigns as backup goaltender within a year or two and that Joonas Korpisalo who came over in the Ottawa deal will not remain with the team long term.
It's a risk for the Bruins as management and Swayman agent did not do well during their last negotiation last year which went to arbitration. It's been reported recently that the team and the goaltender are far apart in terms of money and term.
