The Boston Bruins are ramping up for training camp, as practice at Warrior Ice Arena began. The Bruins were missing one key piece on the ice, Captain Brad Marchand.

Brad Marchand was begrudging any of his duties but would skate prior to his teammate's arrival for practice.

The 36-year-old winger would reveal, that he's trying to get back into form, after an off-season that took a lot out of him:

«I had three surgeries this summer,» Marchand told reporters. «So, I didn't do a whole lot of training until about two weeks ago. I'm just kind of getting back into it. The goal is to try to be ready for camp, or if not, very shortly after. But I'm just kind of getting back into the swing of things now.»

Marchand, like many NHLers played through injuries during the post-season, including a torn tendon in his elbow, a sports hernia in his abdominal area, and a groin surgery to take care of.

Marchand is entering the final year of his $49 Million dollar contract, which he signed in 2016. The Bruins are busy in the meantime trying to sign Jeremy Swayman, but Marchand's next contract will need to be addressed eventually.

Will Marchand end up walking to free agency? Marchand said he doesn't talk about his contract negotiations in public.

«I won't ever talk about contract stuff in the media,» Marchand said. «...Whatever goes on will stay internal between Sweens [general manager Don Sweeney] and our group, and I'll leave it at that. I think there's enough respect between the two sides that we can deal with it and leave it at that.»

Marchand would address a recent article from The Hockey News that speculated news about his future. He would take an exception to it, and explain that they had received the wrong information and nothing of it from his camp.

The article by Ken Campbell, which could be viewed as harmless, suggests Marchand should be paid market value rather than taking a hometown discount.

«I saw a report come out the other day, I think it was The Hockey News, and I don't know where he's getting his information, but it wasn't from our side,» Marchand said. «We're not going to talk about it.»
