The Boston Bruins held Captain's practices on ice last week in Warrior Ice Arena. Brad Marchand was notable on ice, as he'd come back from an off-season spent under the knife.

The Captain had 3 off-season surgeries, which has had a noticeable effect on his game. He repaired a torn tendon in his elbow, sports hernias in his abdomen, and a surgery in his groin as well.

Expectedly he wasn't 100% when taking the ice at the Bruins practice arena, and the NHL's Mike Johnson noticed the difference last week.

"I don't want to read too much into the captain's practice footage, but he wasn't moving completely free out there just yet," observed Johnson.

Johnson, however, understands it's a factor of where Marchand is in his career.

"The further you get into your career, whether you're 29 or 36 or whatever it might be, it takes a little longer to heal, to recover, to get in shape and to find your best game," said Johnson. "That's just the reality of sports and the age curve that we all deal with."

Marchand would also admit during an interview, that the surgeries have delayed his usual training schedule to prepare for the upcoming season.

"There's a lot of work to be done,» Marchand said as per NHL.com. «The summer that I had is not typical for what I'm used to, and it might take to the season. It might take a little bit into the season, but I'll treat the next two months like a summer and train and skate the way that I normally would in the summer, kind of from now on."

Marchand will have some time to recover before training camp picks up, and by then we hope he's ready to go when the regular season fires up.
