The Boston Bruins are making their stance clear as the NHL buyout period unfolds.

While speculation swirls around veteran defenseman Mike Reilly and the potential buyout of his final year contract, one player who won't be bought out is the controversial Mitchell Miller.

The 21-year-old defenseman has been a stain on Bruins general manager Don Sweeney's otherwise commendable 2022-23 season.

This unfortunate situation might hinder Sweeney's chances of claiming the prestigious Jim Gregory Award for NHL GM of the Year.

Initially signed to a three-year deal with an $861,667 salary cap hit, Miller's troubled past resurfaced, prompting the Bruins to distance themselves from him shortly after the contract was inked.

Although Miller's cap hit doesn't affect the team's salary cap, completely severing ties with him would require termination or a buyout.

Either option presents its challenges, with potential grievances or activating cap hits lingering in the balance.
