In the eyes of an experienced former coach, the Boston Bruins are seriously considering Brad Marchand as their new captain following Patrice Bergeron's retirement. Bruce Cassidy, the ex-Bruins coach, expressed his belief in Marchand's suitability for the role during an appearance on the Cam & Strick podcast.

Cassidy highlighted that not many players possess the ideal blend of qualities required for leadership. He acknowledged Bergeron's exemplary leadership style, leading by example, hard work in practice, and ensuring a welcoming atmosphere off the ice while upholding the team's values established by former captain Zdeno Chara. According to Cassidy, Marchand possesses all the qualities to be a great leader - leading by example, an unwavering determination to win, and a wealth of experience under his belt.

As of the previous month, internal discussions within the Bruins on the captaincy matter had been limited, given the fresh news of Bergeron's retirement. However, it appears likely that Marchand will be officially announced as the captain before the commencement of the 2023-24 season. While he may only hold the position for a few seasons due to his advancing age, it makes perfect sense for him to take over as the new #1 leader in Boston, given his contributions and experience with the team.
