Forbort, who's 32, had a tough season because of a leg injury he got back in October. The Bruins decided to keep him out for most of the season to save money on their salary cap. They moved him to LTIR during the trade deadline. That move let them get Pat Maroon from the Wild and Andrew Peeke from the Blue Jackets. Forbort's last game in the NHL was on March 2, when they lost 5-1 to the Islanders.
During the regular season, Forbort only played in 35 games, his lowest number in a while. He didn't score any goals, but he helped with four assists and had a good +8 rating. Normally averaging about 17 and a half minutes per game.
Forbort signed a three-year, $9 million contract with the Bruins in 2021. When he first joined the team, he was good at stopping other teams from scoring. But as time went on, his role got smaller, and his stats got worse.
Even though he hasn't played in the NHL recently, Forbort kept in shape by playing a couple of games with AHL Providence. He didn't do too well there, with a rating of -1 in two games, but he stopped playing last week.
Forbort has played in all 14 Bruins playoff games in 2022 and 2023. He got two assists in those games, and he played for about 17 minutes per game.
Now that Forbort is back, the Bruins have more choices for their defense. Coach Montgomery will have to decide if he wants to use Forbort in the upcoming games.
