Yesterday the Boston Bruins announced that they placed Ian Mitchell on waivers, and many believed that he was placed on waivers so the Bruins could activate Matthew Poitras off of injury reserved.
This was confirmed today when the Boston Bruins announced that Matthew Poitras would make his season debut with the team today against the L.A. Kings.
Today Elliotte Friedman broke the news regarding Ian Mitchell's future with the Boston Bruins organization after placing him on waivers, and making him available for any NHL team to claim him for free.
Friedman reported that Ian Mitchell did end up clearing waivers, and that he will remain with the organization.
With this move the Boston Bruins can now reassign Ian Mitchell to the Providence Bruins.
Matthew Poitras' season last year ended early after appearing in only 33 games last year with the Boston Bruins after suffering a shoulder injury that would require surgery, and had a timeline of 5-6 months.
Matthew Poitras was shut down for the year, and missed all of the playoffs for the Boston Bruins as well.
