Former Boston Bruins star Jaromir Jagr is facing legal trouble with the city of Kladno over a lease issue for the arena where his team, the Kladno Knights, plays.
At 52, Jagr owns the Kladno Knights and is now dealing with a dispute about unpaid rent on the arena, as he missed six months of payments and requested extra time to pay. Despite multiple attempts by the city to address the problem, Jagr has not responded, leading to the lease being terminated.
The city has given Jagr until the end of the season to work out a new agreement so the team can stay in the arena. Kladno's mayor, Milan Volf, expressed his confusion over the matter, noting that Jagr's contract required him to pay two million crowns (around $86,000 USD) while bringing in about 40 million crowns (around $1.7 million USD).
This has been a challenging time for Jagr, who recently reconnected with the Pittsburgh Penguins in a role overseas and announced his retirement after an incredible 37-year hockey career. Now, he's navigating this lease issue as he shifts focus from playing to other hockey responsibilities.
Despite the current conflict, a new deal seems likely, as hockey is a major part of Czech culture, much like it is in Canada and the U.S.
