The St. Louis Blues shared an update on forward Dylan Holloway after a scary moment in last night's game, saying he was taken to the hospital.
During Tuesday's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Holloway took a deflected puck to the throat, causing alarm among fans and teammates alike. Just under two minutes left in the first period, Nick Paul's shot from Tampa deflected off Blues' Jordan Kyrou's stick and struck Holloway above his shoulder pad near his neck. Though clearly shaken, he managed to finish his shift and head to the bench.
Holloway seemed alright on the bench, but his condition worsened quickly. Teammate Alexey Toropchenko signaled for help, and head athletic trainer Ray Barile and his team responded immediately. Barile, with over 30 years of NHL experience, has handled serious situations before, including cardiac events involving Blues players Jay Bouwmeester and Chris Pronger.
Later, the team confirmed Holloway was stable, alert, and breathing fine. His parents, present at the game, went with him to the hospital, where he was monitored for any neck swelling or complications.
The 23-year-old Holloway has been a reliable player for the Blues, with six points in 12 games this season. Although the incident rattled him, his resilience on the ice shows his strong potential, and fans are hopeful for his recovery and continued progress with the team.
