Former Boston Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery reportedly turned down a contract extension from the Boston Bruins before being fired.

The Boston Bruins ended up taking some action on their slow start to the season yesterday.

It was announced yesterday that the Boston Bruins have parted ways with head coach Jim Montgomery.

Today Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney held a press conference to address the media regarding the firing of Jim Montgomery.

Don Sweeney went on to reveal that there was reportedly a contract extension in place for Jim Montgomery.

Ultimately Jim Montgomery ended up turning down the contract extension from the Boston Bruins.

Key takeaways from Sweeney's press conference:
-Montgomery turned down the contract extension the Bruins offered
-He said Monty never lost the room
-He still thinks Lindholm and Zadorov were right offseason moves
-He wants his leaders to hold teammates accountable more

It's unclear what the contract details looked like, and Don Sweeney did not go on to discuss those details either.

Apparently the Boston Bruins and Jim Montgomery have been in contract talks ever since the off-season.

This whole time they have not been able to agree on anything.

Makes you wonder if Jim Montgomery was leaning towards not extending with the Boston Bruins or not.

Do you think Jim Montgomery would have signed an extension with the Boston Bruins if he wasn't fired?
