The goalie hug is dead, with Linus Ullmark in Ottawa, Jeremy Swayman has a new ritual with Joonas Korpisalo.

While Korpisalo is not 1B to Swayman's 1A he has proven himself to be a capable backup under head coach Joe Sacco.

The two have forged a bond in the organization, which at one point Korpisalo fought tooth and nail against in 2019.

Nevertheless, the two have developed their own ritual instead of the famous, now-gone goalie hug. RIP Goalie Hug.

«I'm not going to bring it to Ottawa,» Ullmark acknowledged. «The goalie hug that we had in Boston, that's for me and Sway only - and that's out of respect for what we had and what we built through our years together and the respect and love and admiration that I have for him.

Swayman has since moved onto something a little bit simpler, and something you'd see in a bar, or when two people have a drink in their hand.

The new goalie ritual, we'll have to dub for now "goalie cheer", as they slam their Gatorade bottles together in unison.

The Boston goalie hug became a phenomenon. TV broadcasts held off going to commercial so as not to miss it. Multiple different T-shirts were made of them performing their embrace.

Swayman is a hugger. He even made news by offering a hug to Thatcher Demko at NHL All-Star weekend, that was silently rebuffed.

It appears that even with Ullmark gone, he's found different ways of staying positive and fostering relationships with his teammates and competitors.

We'll always miss Linus Ullmark here in Boston, as it seems like the choice to move him was wrong from the start.

We now have the goalie cheer.

If you have a better idea, put it in the comments!
