Grzelcyk was notably absent from Thursday's practice session as the team prepared to head to Winnipeg for a Friday night face-off against the Jets. Subsequently, the Bruins will travel to Minnesota for a Saturday night rematch with the Wild, who secured a 4-3 overtime victory over the Bruins at TD Garden on Tuesday night.
Coach Jim Montgomery, speaking to the media after practice, classified Grzelcyk as day-to-day and refrained from making a definitive statement about his participation in the back-to-back games this weekend.
Montgomery stated,
During the Tuesday night game against the Wild, Grzelcyk absorbed a hard hit in the corner early in the first period. Despite leaving the game briefly, he displayed resilience by returning in the second period and playing through what seemed to be an upper-body injury.
This setback adds to Grzelcyk's challenges this season, as he had previously missed ten games due to an upper-body injury sustained in late October during the Bruins' 3-2 overtime win against the Florida Panthers. The 29-year-old defenseman made his comeback on November 25 in the Bruins' 7-4 loss to the New York Rangers. Since returning to the lineup, he has played eleven games without registering a point, and his last point came in the form of a goal on October 26 in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Anaheim Ducks. Grzelcyk is currently on a 14-game point drought.
