Jim Montgomery has sent a clear message to the Boston Bruins ahead of their game against the Florida Panthers today.

To start of the 2024-25 seasons the Boston Bruins are 2-1-0 and their only loss came at the hands of the defending Stanley Cup Champions, the Florida Panthers during the Bruins first game of the year on opening night. The Florida Panthers not only embarrassed the Boston Bruins in a 6-4 win, but they easily got under the skin of the Bruins. The Panthers played the roles of agitators but then failed to back up their actions when push came to shove, both Matthew Tkachuk, and Sam Bennett were in the middle of this.

Trent Frederic revealed after their first meeting that Tkachuk challenged him to a fight, but the refused to drop the gloves whenever Frederic attempted too. This made Frederic take a unsportsmanlike penalty, giving the Florida Panthers a power play. Last season Bennett got on the bad side of Boston Bruins fans after sucker punching Brad Marchand in game 3 of the playoffs, and during their first meeting Bennett ended up plowing Joonas Korpisalo.

The Bruins gave the Florida Panthers six power plays, thankfully they weren't able to capitalize on any of them but Jim Montgomery stated the Bruins need to get back to playing hockey during their meeting today.

«We have got to get back to playing hockey,» Bruins coach Jim Montgomery told reporters following practice at Warrior Ice Arena on Sunday, per team-provided video. «I love it that we have emotion and they're a rival, but at the same time, we have to be disciplined. We're taking too many penalties.»

Montgomery suggested three areas the Boston Bruins will need to be better in to help them beat the Florida Panthers today.

«I think for us, it's all about execution and effort,» Montgomery said. «That wasn't there. And start on time would be three.»

Puck drop is slatted for 1 p.m. ET. at TD Garden.
