Boston Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery surprised fans and analysts alike with a mid-season-like line change despite his team's 2-0-0 start to the season. The alterations came in response to what he perceived as underutilized 5-on-5 offense in the Bruins' game against the Nashville Predators.

Montgomery's decision was designed to inject a much-needed spark into the Bruins' offensive play. The new line combinations revealed in Monday's practice featured several notable adjustments, including Jake DeBrusk, Pavel Zacha, and David Pastrnak forming the top line. Meanwhile, rising star Matthew Poitras joined Brad Marchand and Morgan Geekie on the second line, with James van Riemsdyk, Charlie Coyle, and Trent Frederic comprising the third line.

Acknowledging that it's still early in the season, Montgomery highlighted his trust in his observations and the desire to experiment for a performance boost. He also expressed the need for all players to be able to face any opposition in the NHL, implying that Poitras will face tougher matchups alongside Marchand.

The Bruins are currently in the midst of a four-day gap between games before embarking on a four-game road trip, commencing in San Jose on Thursday.
