Perfect trade candidate emerges from the Pacific Division: Don Sweeney and the Bruins need to act fast
The Boston Bruins are on the outside looking as after American Thanksgiving, their Stanley Cup hopes could be out of reach. They're currently 12-11-3 and currently outside of a playoff spot.
The team lacks meaningful depth on the roster, and GM Don Sweeney will have to look outside of the Eastern Conference for a great 2nd line center.
That player is currently a San Jose Shark, Mikael Granlund. This season he's put up 28 points( 10 G, 18 A) in 25 games on a bad Sharks team. He's continued to be one of the Sharks key forwards and could be a trade piece to help move Mike Grier's rebuild in San Jose forward.
TSN insider Craig Button recently highlighted the Bruins' lack of offensive skill, stating, «They simply don't have enough skill up frontThey have a tough time scoring. They don't have a center.» This is where Granlund comes in. He's having a resurgent season with the Sharks (28 points in 25 games) and possesses the versatility to play both center and wing.
Granlund should be an immediate target of the Bruins due to his history of 60+ point production during his career.
Not only that, but Granlund is an exceptional passer and can be a playmaker which is missing in the Bruins offense.
And the cherry on top is that he would offer the Bruins some flexibility in the lineup as he's capable of playing wing, and center in the lineup.
Granlund is also a key piece on the Sharks' special teams, as a fixture on the team's 1st power-play unit.
Another vital role that the Bruins need help with since they have one of the worst power plays in the league.
It's almost as if Don Sweeney should have been on the phone with Mike Grier in advance to get these talks rolling.
