Recent reports suggest Bruce Cassidy's favorite player may head to Boston
It appears in recent reports that Vegas Golden Knights star forward Jonathan Marchessault will likely be on the move this summer as Boston could become a new home.
The 2023 Conn Smythe winner had asked the team last summer on the possibility of a contract extension. But it appears general manager Kelly McCrimmon and his staff we're not ready to make the commitment and it's likely that he will be walking for nothing.
«I asked last summer,» Marchessault said about requesting an extension. «I said I would rather do it in the summer before the season. They said they're not ready to do that, and after there's not even a single talk that I've had during the season. I don't know. Technically, as an organization, you've signed a player for six years, right? So you have the full six years and after you can deal with it, so we'll see.»
He has completed his six-year $30 million contract with the golden Knights and will be seeking a raise as he continues to look over teams.
One team in particular that is showing interest is the Boston Bruins. The organization recognizes that it had an inability to score during these playoffs and parts of the regular season. The team is looking to add down the middle and to their top 9 and a player like Marchessault would certainly fit the bill.
«We don't have a call yet or anything,» Marchessault explained prior to taking part in the World Series of Poker. «They said they were interested to sign me. They have time until June 30 or so.»
The Bruins are looking for scoring add a player like Marchessault would certainly give the team a boost in goal production and assists. During this season, he played 82 games and had a record of 45 goals with 27 assists for 69 points and 40 penalty minutes.
The Bruins have over $20 million to spend this summer and adding a player of
his caliber would certainly boost their offense.
