Surprise announcement involving Bruins prospect Fabian Lysell
The Boston Bruins are always in playoff contention it seems, and that has disastrous consequences for the healthiness of the team.
Of course, as perennial contenders, the team needs all the talent available to them including when it comes to making trades.
The team isn't rebuilding, but constantly re-tooling as they need the bodies to push them forward into the playoffs and hopefully one day a Stanley Cup Final.
That means, emptying the cupboard in order to secure the best talent available.
This leaves someone like Fabian Lysell to be ranked as the 88th top prospect in the NHL, out of 100.
The Athletic recently ranked the Top 100 Prospects in the NHL and Fabian Lysell was the only #NHLBruins player at 88 #GetBent
Lysell is the only prospect the Bruins have on this list, which is to be expected as Don Sweeney and the Bruins haven't had a 1st round pick since 2021, aside from this offseason.
There's hope next season or the season after, Dean Letourneau joins the list of top prospects.
But the prospect pool in itself, isn't healthy or deep when it's compared to a team like the Chicago Blackhawks, who have torn it down and rebuilt the team from the foundations.
Boston Bruins are No. 30 in 2024 NHL prospect pool rankings
Were it not for the graduation of Matt Poitras to the NHL at 19, the Boston Bruins' pool would likely rank a few slots higher. Without Poitras, though, this group really only has three quality prospects and then a cluster of players you hope can emerge as call-up types.
That's a consequence of picking in the first round just once in the last four years, and not until the third round last year and of prioritizing a certain type of hardworking, pro-bodied, good-skating who maybe lacks a dynamic quality.
