The Dallas Stars are in a bad way, as they will have to make do without one of their top forwards in the lineup. That is former Boston Bruin, Tyler Seguin.

It was reported by Michael Derosa of Yahoo Sports today, that Seguin will have to undergo a hip-surgery. He'll be out for the next four to six months, due to the nature of the surgery, and recovery time.

This is bad news for Peter DeBoer, as if the recovery time afterward takes up to four months they could be without key forward Seguin until the end of the regular season.

If he's out 6 months, it could mean the Dallas Stars' depth is lacking and could prove challenging for the Stars' Stanley Cup hopes.

Seguin has played 19 games for the Stars this season and scored 20 points(9 G, 11 A).

This timeline undoubtedly puts Seguin's season in jeopardy. If it takes him a minimum of four months to recover, he will return during the final portion of the regular season. However, if his recovery takes the maximum amount of time, he would not be good enough to go until June.

Under the tutelage of Peter DeBoer the Stars have grown into a powerhouse, and Jim Nill's acquisitions have turned them into a yearly playoff contender.

Seguin originally arrived in Dallas during the 2013-2014 season, where the year prior he only skated in 48 games for the Boston Bruins.

The trade was a 4 for 3 swap between Boston and Dallas

Tyler Seguin, Rich Peverly, Craig Button for Riley Smith, Joe Morrow, Loui Eriksson and Matt Fraser. All 4 are now former Bruins. To make this trade even worse, the Bruins took the only respectable return (Riley Smith) and traded him straight up for Jimmy Hayes.

The aforementioned 27 year old Hayes just had the final year of his deal bought out by the Bruins. Jimmy's cap hit of 2.3 mill is now spaced out saving the Bruins 1.7 mill of cap space in 2017.

Seguin has played in Dallas for a total of 11 years now, and has failed to secure a Stanley Cup.

The team did play against the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Stanley Cup finals during the 2020 bubble.

Will Seguin's absence be an excuse for Peter DeBoer's future failures? Or is it a sign of things to come that the Stars aren't built for the postseason?

Seguin's career totals are: 988 games in the NHL, scoring 808 points( 360 G, 448 A)
