The 'Hockey is for Everyone'' controversy continues, as a player for the Buffalo Sabres is the latest NHL player to refuse to wear the Pride warmup jerseys.
The Sabres are hosting their Pride Night tonight when they host the Montreal Canadiens.
Refusing to Wear the Pride Sweater
Ilya Libushkin announced that he wound not be partaking in warmup, and Sabres reported Paul Hamilton shared the defenseman's reasoning:
''Being a Russian player who lives in Russia in the off season, Ilya Lyubushkin has decided not to participate in Pride Night tonight. He fears for his family back home and will play tonight, but will not take warm up.'' It's a very controversial topic in the NHL right now but it's hard to hate some players reasonings. Especially when we don't know how things happen across the world and when it comes to keeping family safe.
However, the Sabres organization has been adamant that they are inclusive and proud to host the special night.
