The National Hockey League is on the verge of meting out consequences in what is increasingly resembling an illicit trade.

This past Saturday, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman unveiled the impending NHL action against the Ottawa Senators concerning their handling of the trade involving forward Evgeny Dadonov to the Vegas Golden Knights.

The trade surrounding Dadonov from the previous season had been surrounded by controversy, as the Golden Knights had attempted to send Dadonov to the Anaheim Ducks, and it appears that the Senators may bear some responsibility for the mix-up.

"When [Vegas] acquired him from the Ottawa Senators, they were informed that Dadonov had not submitted his trade request on time, giving Vegas the green light to make any necessary moves," disclosed Friedman on Hockey Night in Canada.

Dadonov had a set of teams he would not accept a trade to, a stipulation negotiated in his contract, and it seems that the Ottawa Senators may not have been entirely transparent about whether or not Dadonov had indeed submitted such a list.

"That wasn't the case; he had submitted it," Friedman further revealed. "The reason this is relevant now is because, in the next few days, the NHL is expected to announce some form of penalty for the Senators in this matter."

It also seems that we will gain more insight into the exact sequence of events as the NHL investigates to exonerate Vegas from any blame in what was an unsightly situation.

"Expect a thorough explanation of what transpired and why Vegas should not be held responsible."

Stay tuned for further developments in this unfolding story.
