Pittsburgh Penguins top defenseman Kris Letang may be getting traded.

According to a recent report, it seems Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang may have requested a trade to his hometown team.

The Penguins competitive window is certanly closing as their core is all above the age of 35 and have missed the playoffs for the last two years, on top of that, they haven't won a playoff round since 2018.

Mark Madden of The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review stated that the Penguins and Montreal Canadiens had talks about a trade that would send Kris Letang to the Montreal Canadiens, but nothing has yet to come of it.

He also added that Kris Letang has a lot of interest in joining his hometown team, but as it stands he will remain a Pittsburgh Penguin for the time being.

"However, after the Penguins missed the playoffs last season and potentially on the outside of the playoff picture and looking in, Letang reportedly expressed interest in joining the Canadiens, his hometown team. Madden revealed that there were talks between the Penguins and Canadiens regarding a potential trade, but nothing materialized." Jim Parsons of The Hockey Writers said.

It's no secret that the Penguins are past their prime, and they aren't seen as contenders anymore, but it's hard to imagine Kris Letang leaving the Pittsburgh Penguins while Sidney Corsby, and Evgeni Malkin are still playing for them.
