A Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman just turned his back on the Leafs organization.

July 1st the Toronto Maple Leafs and Brad Treliving made some splashes by adding some big names to their roster, but the interesting part is that one free agent, Jani Hakanpaa was never officially added to the team's lineup, despite supposedly signing him.

Hakanpaa played with the Dallas Stars last season but left in free agency and reportedly signed a two-year $3 million deal with the Maple Leafs, but the signing was never promoted by the team's social media, and the team's website does not have him listed on there.

The only mention the Maple Leafs have done regarding Hakanpaa is Brad Treliving stated that he "shines in his ability to kill penalties" which he stated in a press conference.

It was reported since then by Leafs insider Steve Simmonds that Hakanpaa may never play a game in the NHL again. Simmonds stated that he is having problems with his knee and reportedly his knee was bone on bone.

Doctors cleared the Maple Leafs to sign the defenseman, but that is the last update we have had on Hakanpaa, until the other day when it was revealed that Hakanpaa has been spending his off-season in Finland where he was born, and was sporting a Dallas Stars jersey during an annual golf charity fundraiser.

He turned his back on the organization by representing his former team, which makes you question if he actually did sign with the Maple Leafs or if he is still a free agent.

Stay tuned for further updates.
