Hage, whose an 18-year-old winger, is projected to be taken outside of the top 10 ten of the 1st round in the draft. He's known for his stout character in addition to his abilities on ice.
Hage is originally from Mississauga, Ontario, and left home early to join his junior squad the USHL's Chicago Steel. In addition to the hardship of leaving home early, he experienced a tragedy returning home on holiday in July of last year.
His father Alan, would drown during the family get-together and of course, have a huge impact on Hage's life forever.
«He meant everything to me, he was my role model, someone I looked to my whole life,» said Hage, met at the NHL Prospect Evaluation Session (Combine) in Buffalo. «With him, it all started with hard work. He was someone who worked hard his whole life, and he wanted me to put effort into everything I did.
«His loss has obviously left a huge void in my life. » -Michael Hage
After the tragedy, he would to return to Chicago to train in order to maintain some idea of normalcy, while never forgetting the event in his mind.
He has faced adversity early in his career, as his first season in the USHL, saw him arrive to training camp, only to be taken out of camp the first day due to a shoulder injury.
However, according to Mike Garman, he would return the next season stronger in his second season:
«A lot of people wouldn't have been able to deal with all that. We are talking about two very hard blows to bear [his injury and the loss of his father]. Everyone would have understood if the results hadn't been there, but Michael seemed to be improving thanks to all this. I couldn't have been more impressed with how he handled everything he had to go through. » -Mike Garman
Hage has experienced a major amount of adversity, only playing 13 games in 2022-2023. To this season, scoring a whopping 75 points, 33 goals in 54 games with the Steel. A massive turnaround in production and play.
His strength and willpower, along with his scoring capabilities will be attractive to many teams in the NHL, including the Boston Bruins
