A young 21-year old goalie of Quebec, Canada has tragically passed away following a hockey tournament this past weekend.

Zachary Bourassa, who was a goaltender, was playing in a Dek Hockey Tournament at Martin-Bergeron park near Centre Sportif Alphonse-Desjardins in Trois-Rivieres.

According to reports, following the tournament Bourassa went into cardiac arrest, ultimately resulting in his death.

This was later confirmed by his mother, who made a heartbreaking post on facebook that was translated from french:

Last night, Zachary left us while practicing his favorite sport. He leaves a giant void around him, he was so young and had his whole life ahead of him. Please watch over us and your beautiful Elo. We love you Zach.

Bourassa's family stressed that the people on scene did everything in their power to save his life, even used a defibrillator, but ultimately he was pronounced deceased before the ambulance arrived.

According to the family, he went into cardiac arrest early during one of the games, and the family stated that playing hockey did not play a part, and was not the reason for his death.

The hockey community has once again come together following this tragic news. Many friends, family and strangers have put sticks out to honour Bourassa.
