Now that the St. Louis Blues have hoisted the Stanley Cup, the NHL offseason is officially underway.

We've already seen it get going thanks to the Philadelphia Flyers who swapped defensemen with the Washington Capitals.

It's going to be really something to watch this summer when it comes to NHL defenseman as an elite blueliner has the opportunity to become a free agent.

Erik Karlsson will without a doubt touch Drew Doughty type numbers and could take home $11million a year.

The San Jose Sharks are the only team that can sign Karlsson to eight years instead of seven, but they'll only be able to offer seven if they can't get a deal done before July 1st.

The Athletic's Kevin Kurz who covers the Sharks spoke with reporters around the league to find out thechances Karlsson would take on each city.

While the Bruins like any team could use Karlsson's help, The Athletic's Joe McDonald believes there's "no chance" the B's go after Karlsson.

Here's his contribution to the piece about the Bruins:

"The Bruins did have past interest in Karlsson but that's no longer the case. As evident of the team's run to the Stanley Cup final, defense has been a major factor for the Bruins. Zdeno Chara, 42, still made an impact and Torey Krug emerged as a force at both ends of the ice. The Bruins also saw continued development from young D-men Charlie McAvoy, Brandon Carlo, Matt Grzelcyk and Clifton. And, the team did it without veteran Miller, who suffered a season-ending injury in April. Plus, prospect Urho Vaakanainen is waiting in Providence of the AHL."
