Boston Bruins' number one defenseman Charlie McAvoy is still on long-term injured reserve, but there are a few hints from today that makes it seem like he's about to return to action.

McAvoy was a full participant in team practice Wednesday morning and was skating on the first pair with Hampus Lindholm for the first time this season. Matt Porter of The Boston Globe also reported this:

It doesn't seem like much, but stuff like this usually only happens when a player is returning from injury. The exact same thing happened with Brad Marchand, and he made his debut the next day, way ahead of schedule. Of course, we can't read too much into these sorts of things or get our hopes up, but the last hint makes things very interesting,

The Bruins placed defenseman Mike Reilly on waivers today for the purpose of assignment to the AHL. If he's claimed, Boston will have enough space to activate McAvoy, but if he's not, they can place Derek Forbort on LTIR to make the room.

As per head coach Jim Montgomery:

''He's getting close. He'll be playing within a week. I'm not going to confirm or deny that [he'll play Thursday night against Calgary] because there's boxes left to be checked.''
