Now, this is what you call ''grasping for straws'' at its finest!
During Saturday's game between the Boston Bruins and the Colorado Avalanche, defenseman Charlie McAvoy was called out by writer Adrian Dater of Colorado Hockey Now for a ''dirty play'' on Artturi Lehkonen (video below).
As per Dater:
''Avs need to respond to McAvoy on Wednesday night. Whether it's dirty like this or not, they need to respond. A top player was injured by this after-the-whistle play and they need to let him know it wasn't forgotten.''
Avalanche fans replying to Dater were also saying that McAvoy should hear from the NHL's Department of Player Safety for the play. Players are free game when they stand over a team's goaltender like that. Plays like this happen all the time in front of the net.
Lehkonen left the game soon after, did not return and is currently listed as day-to-day with an upper-body injury. It just so happens that the two teams meet again on Wednesday night, this time in Colorado.
