According to Frank Seravalli of the Daily Faceoff Podcast the DFO rundown, the Carolina Hurricanes had a deal in place to trade restricted free agent Martin Necas to the Buffalo Sabres.

He revealed that the trade was blocked due to the fact that Necas refused To sign a contract with the Sabres. This led to other negotiations with the Winnipeg Jets were they offered the Hurricanes I rookie prospect Rutger McGroarty, forward Cole perfetti and a draft pick.

In the end, the Hurricanes signed him to a two year extension were $13 million who will hold the cap hit of $6.5 million per season.

It appeared that he was heading out of the organization as numerous reports were surfacing of frustration due to the lack of ice time and especially power play time which caused a rift between Necas and the Hurricanes. Last season, he played 77 games scoring 24 goals with 29 assists for 53 points and was a - 9 with 42 penalty minutes.

The Hurricanes are clearly looking to see if he will have a bounce back here as in 2022-2023 he played all 82 games, scoring 28 goals with 43 assists for 71 points and was a + 5.

With the Hurricanes going through change especially in their front office, a deal like this will certainly calm the waters have the team seeks to reassert itself and try for another cup run next year.
