Jim Parsons of The Hockey News and The Hockey Writers has reported that the Toronto Maple Leafs could be in some serious trouble with the contract they signed defenseman Chris Taven to during the off-season.
The Toronto Maple Leafs plan to use a loophole involving the way that LTIR works, and want to try and bury his contract in this loophole whenever Tanev's contract is no longer working for them towards the end of his term.
It has been speculated that the Maple Leafs plan on having Tanev apart of their team as long as he stays healthy, but he has some health problems, and it is rumoured that the team will bury his contract in LTIR after playing a couple season's if his health issues come up, making it so the team doesn't face a penalty and Tanev still gets paid his full salary.
Many believe that this loophole is going to get fixed and that the Toronto Maple Leafs will be on the hook for his full deal having to pay him against their salary cap.
