Monday morning, the United States Anti-Doping Agency announced that the 2022 Hobey Baker Award winner would receive a six-month suspension for a positive test of the banned substance.

Dryden McKay, a goaltender for the Minnesota State University and Hobey Baker winner as NCAA men's hockey's top player, received the suspension because of a small trace of Ostarine found in his urine.

McKay had to give a urine sample as he was selected as an extra for the U.S. Men's Olympic team for the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing, China. When his test returned positive, he was shocked and later found out that the banned substance was found in Quercetin, a plant-based antioxidant and anti-inflammatory that he was using as an immune booster against COVID.

The initial sentence was rumoured to be for four years, but he received only a six-month suspension because he proved its origin was a falsely-marked supplement.
