Breaking news out of Ottawa this morning, as the Senators are reportedly placing a former first-round draft pick on waivers for the purpose of a buyout.
TSN's Bruce Garrioch was the first to report the news:
As per NHL insider Frank Seravalli:
"#Sens have placed Colin White on unconditional waivers for purposes of a buyout. They will save $10.5 million in real cash because White is only 25.
Cap charge is less than $900,000 for five of next six years with one season as a cap credit, per @CapFriendly."
The Ottawa Senators drafted Colin White in the first round (21st overall) at the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.
The Boston, Massachusetts native has appeared in 224 NHL games, all with the Senators, and has recorded 36 goals and 62 assists. The 25-year-old only played 24 games during the 2021-22 season and collected three goals and seven assists.
Being only 25, White could be a huge pickup with a cheap contract for teams looking for extra help on the wing.
