The Boston Bruins surprised fans by placing Craig Smith on waivers Sunday afternoon.
The deadline to claim him or not just passed at 2 pm EST, and we now have an update on the veteran forward.
As per Chris Johnston of TSN:
Everyone on NHL waivers yesterday cleared: Craig Smith (BOS), Austin Czarnik (DET) and Jason Demers (EDM).
The Bruins can now keep Smith in Boston, assign him to Providence, or move him back and forth in paper transactions without waivers for the next 30 days. Some much needed roster/cap flexibility.
Smith, 33, has 1 goal and 3 assists in 17 games for the Bruins this season. He will be in the lineup tonight against the Florida Panthers.
