Bruins Jack Studnicka is making his case for an opening night roster spot

Jack Studnicka may finally become a full-time NHLer after being drafted 53rd overall by the Boston Bruins at the 2017 Entry Draft.

The Bruins' preseason opener against the Philadelphia Flyers wasn't the best for him, which forced head coach Jim Montgomery to have a chat with the 23-year-old.

''I like the way he responded. I talked to him (Monday) about the opportunity to respond from game one, where I thought he didn't play to the levels that he expects or that we expect of him.''

''[Tuesday] he did. it was nice to see him get rewarded with some offensive production.''

And it must've worked, as Studnicka had a big game in a 3-2 overtime win against the New York Rangers on Tuesday, registering two assists.

''We had a conversation like he said, and I took it to heart ... I agreed with him. I didn't show my best in Philadelphia. You can only make one first impression, so I made sure my second one was good.''

It's great to see this from both Montgomery and Studnicka, that a coach can take a young player aside to encourage him, and the player responds. Something that Bruce Cassidy was allegedly not very good at during his tenure in Boston.
