In what is turning out to be the most ''under the radar'' signing of the offseason, the Boston Bruins have found a gem in the undrafted Luke Toporowski.
Toporowski, 21, came to the Bruins rookie camp on an invitee basis and instantly stood out. Because of that, the forward earned himself a two-year AHL contract in Providence, and now he's making an early case for Rookie of the Year.
Saturday night, he continued his hot start with his first career professional hat trick against the Syracuse Crunch (see below):
Toporowski is now tied for second and one point behind first place with 15 points for rookie skaters and leads all AHL rookies with 9 goals. The Idaho native's offensive skills have translated perfectly from the WHL to the AHL and, let's hope, someday to the NHL.
