At just 23 years old, Cale Makar of the Colorado Avalanche is, without a doubt, the best defenseman in the NHL.
For example, has already won the Calder Trophy, Norris Trophy, Conn Smythe Trophy and Stanley Cup. During a career season where he registered 28 goals and 58 assists for a total of 86 points.
His career so far has put him in company with all-time great defensemen of the NHL, and he has another record in his sights for the 2022-23 season.
As per NHL Public Relations:
''Fresh off winning his first Stanley Cup, the Conn Smythe Trophy and the James Norris Memorial Trophy, Cale Makar enters 2022-23 looking to follow up a successful campaign that saw him set franchise benchmarks for goals and points in a regular season by a defenseman (28-5886 in 77 GP) and record the fourth-highest point total by a defenseman in a postseason in NHL history (8-2129 in 20 GP). His record-setting season moved the 23-year-old within 20 points of 200 in his career.''
Makar sits at 180 points in 178 career games. Meaning he has 28 games to record 20 points to pass Sergei Zubov as the fastest defenseman in NHL history to reach 200 points.
