Saturday morning, Jim Montgomery gave an update on injured defenseman Derek Forbort, and with the news came questions about what the Boston Bruins will do next.

As per Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald:

''Montgomery said he expects Forbort to be playing by Saturday's game against Colorado. Ullmark, Frederic, Smith are all day to day. No decision yet on possible call-ups for Tuesday.''

So basically, the ''clock is ticking'' on a cap-clearing move for general manager Don Sweeney. The Bruins can't fit Forbort under the cap unless someone else goes on long-term injured reserve. However, all current injuries are listed as day-to-day, so it seems unlikely.

With Forbort on the roster, the Bruins would have a cap space of -$1,331,528. What will Sweeney do? He will have no leverage now that he literally has to make a trade to get under the cap. Don't be surprised to see Boston add a draft pick on to get any deal done.

The two obvious trade candidates are Mike Reilly, who is currently in the AHL and carries a $3 million cap hit, and Craig Smith, who carries a $3.1 million cap hit and has been healthy scratched several times this season.
