The NHL Trade Deadline is fast approaching, with March 21st being deadline day. The Philadelphia Flyers are stuck between a rock and a hard place, but going into the deadline the Flyers are in a very advantageous position. The Flyers are heading toward a re-tool and they likely hold the most valuable trade piece ahead of the deadline.
The 34-year-old Giroux is in the final year of his contract with a cap hit of $8,250,000 and for most teams Giroux will be purely a rental asset ahead of July 1st. The biggest issue that faces Flyers' GM Chuck Fletcher, is the no-movement clause attached to Giroux's contract. Ultimately this will allow Giroux to decide where he wants to play, similar to how Taylor Hall steered the Buffalo Sabres into moving him to Boston at last year's deadline.
I'm told that Claude Giroux has made it known to Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher that Colorado is where he wants to go. If somehow that doesn't work out, Minnesota or St. Louis would be acceptable alternatives @ColHockeyNow
If Giroux plays 13 more games in Philadelphia he will have accumulated 1,000 career games as a Flyer, so this situation will be interesting to watch as he will hit this milestone on March 17th.
