The Edmonton Oilers came away with a 5-3 win on opening night, but the game didn't start the way they wanted it to. The Oilers were down 2-0 to the Vancouver Canucks early in the game, and defenseman Darnell Nurse took out his frustration on an opposing player.

Too bad that he did it illegally, however, as NHL Player Safety has announced their first punishment of the 2022-23 season for his actions:

''Edmonton's Darnell Nurse has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for Interference on Vancouver's Kyle Burroughs.''

Nurse decided to hit Canucks defenseman Kyle Burroughs very late and what looked close to the head. He received a two-minute minor for interference on the play, but the league decided it deserved more.
