Goaltender Spencer Knight has only played in 36 career games, but that didn't stop the Panthers from making him among the top 25 highest-paid goaltenders in the NHL.

As per the Panthers' PR:

''Florida Panthers General Manager Bill Zito announced today that the club has agreed to terms with goaltender Spencer Knight on a three-year contract extension through the 2025-26 season.''

The contract has an AAV of $4.5 million, which puts him above notable goalies such as Ilya Sorokin, Tristan Jarry, Marc Andre Fleury and Jake Oettinger. The deal comes as a surprise to many as Knight is still under contract for one more season on his entry-level deal.

Knight was selected 13th overall by the Panthers in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. The 21-year-old has a career record of 23-9-3, a .909 SV%, 2.74 GAA and two shutouts.

With this deal, the expectation should be that the Panthers plan on relying on Knight more consistently and that he will be worth much more than his contract. Florida now has over $15 million committed to their goaltenders beginning next season, unless they're planning to move Sergei Bobrovsky.
